A micro-inverter is a piece of electrical equipment which is installed on the rack at the back of each solar panel. It converts and controls the DC power generated from each solar panel into AC power which can be fed back into the national grid and used safely in the home. Visit here to learn more about Micro-Inverter technology.
Micro-inverters have many advantages over the traditional string (or central) inverter systems that are currently used on the majority of solar installations. Central Inverter systems typically have one or two inverters which control a whole array of solar panels. Using a Micro-Inverter system, each individual panel has its own dedicated inverter, which allows much greater control and flexibility. (A comparison of the two systems can be seen here.)
